Story

  • Young student completes homemade solar car with small budget in east China (2012-04-09)
  • A young Chinese student spent 15,000 yuan (US$2,377) making a solar car in east China. Zhu Zhenlin, 19 years old, equipped the car with 22 solar panels and six 12v storage batteries, which enable it to run at a maximun speed of 40 kilometers per hour. The automatic-transmission car, weighing about 400kg, measures 3.2 meters long, 1.4 meters wide and 1.4 meters tall. It can run for 70 km after the batteries are fully recharged under the sun for 4 hours. Zhu, a student of Xiangshan high technical school, started to design and make the car in May 2011. He used more than 10,000 auto and electrical parts to make it.    Photo by Imaginechina
